Global Commodities Holdings operates a digital marketplace that connects buyers and sellers of physical commodities, starting with coal and now expanding into metals like nickel, lithium, and cobalt. The company brings structure, transparency, and efficiency to traditionally opaque trading markets. With a proven model in coal trading, they are now positioning themselves as a leader in multi-commodity digital marketplaces.
Scope of Project:
Global Commodities Holdings is best known for its online coal trading platform at globalCOAL — a long-established marketplace connecting buyers and sellers of thermal and metallurgical coal around the world. With a proven model in place, the company is now expanding its digital marketplace concept to new commodities, starting with nickel, and eventually branching into others like lithium and cobalt.
To support this expansion, they needed a dedicated website — distinct from the legacy coal platform — with a modern UI and a flexible structure that could accommodate new commodities as the business grows.

The new platform had to reflect the credibility and authority of an established industry leader, while also feeling fresh and future-facing to appeal to emerging commodity markets. The team wanted to distance the new website visually and functionally from the original coal trading site, which was rooted in an older, more utilitarian design system.
At the same time, the site needed to communicate a clear value proposition to new users in unfamiliar markets, offering a streamlined experience and clear pathways to onboard participants in nickel trading — with the ability to scale this model for future commodities.

We approached this project by first understanding the essence of what made the original coal platform successful: trust, market structure, and ease of transaction. Then, we worked with the team to translate those strengths into a new brand expression for Global Commodities Holdings that could serve as the digital front door for their expansion into metals trading.
The design was built to be clean, authoritative, and flexible — with a modular layout system that allows for consistent rollout across new commodity verticals. We developed a streamlined UX that clearly explains the marketplace model, onboarding process, and trading tools, while emphasizing credibility through content structure and visual language.
This wasn’t just a new website — it was the foundation for a multi-commodity platform, designed to evolve with the company’s strategic vision.

The new Global Commodities Holdings website now positions the company as a forward-thinking player in global markets beyond coal. It's running on a custom built WordPress Theme and serves as both an introduction to their expanded mission and a functional space for users to explore how the marketplace works.
Internally, the site provides a flexible framework that can be easily updated as new commodity markets come online. The UI strikes the right balance between institutional authority and modern usability — a critical blend for trust-building in B2B markets.
